It is backed by a well-recognized brand, which gave me confidence that it will meet my expectations. It arrived within a few days, just in time for the spring season.
As someone who enjoys going on solo boating adventures, I am a firm believer that investing in high-quality equipment is very important. After doing extensive research, I found the Pelican Sit-on-Top Kayak – Sentinel 100X to be a suitable choice.
In this article, I will discuss my experience with this kayak and mention its pros and cons. Let’s get started.
Pelican Sit-on-Top Kayak – Sentinel 100X Review
The Sentinel 100X is one of the most versatile kayaks on the market, and it is available in two attractive color designs – EXO Neptune White and Fade Black Green-Light Khaki. Also, I was able to choose between the Recreational and the Angler model.
The focal point of my tests was to see whether this kayak is as rigid and safe as Pelican suggested. Additionally, the weight capacity of 275 pounds got my attention, as that is impressive for a solo boat.
Who Is This Product For?
I think that the Pelican Sit-on-Top Kayak – Sentinel 100X is a suitable choice for anyone who enjoys recreational kayaking. The fact that it comes in an Angler Fishing design increases its target group even further. Most importantly, it isn’t too expensive and offers fantastic performance for its price.
While it is not a kayak for competitions, it is a great investment for boating amateurs and all watersports enthusiasts.
What’s Included?
I was quite surprised that the Sentinel 100X doesn’t include kayaking paddles. The only two items that I received were the kayak itself and a user’s guide.
Overview Of Features
The model that I went for is the recreational kayak. Still, I will do my best to provide you a thorough review of the features that highlight the Angler Fishing model. The Sentinel 100X EXO that I invested in is set at 114 inches in length, 30 inches in width, and 11 inches in depth.
Although it weighs just 41.8 pounds, it offers a load capacity of 275 pounds, which I found quite impressive. On the other hand, the fishing kayak is set at 114’’ x 30’’ x 13.25’’ and is 2.2 pounds heavier than the former model. There isn’t a lot of difference between these two apart from the fact that the Angler kayak requires a bit more maneuvering experience.
The four conclusions that I drew from using this product are that it is fast, stable, agile, and perfect for tracking activity. Apart from the comfortable EVA seating that both models offer, there is also a 13-liter compartment in which I stored my valuables, snacks, and bottled water. The main reason why it is so durable and stable is due to the RAM-X construction.
It presents a premium, triple-layer polyethylene that is a fantastic solution for kayaks that are universal and made to perform in both calm and rough waters. The manufacturer provides a limited guarantee on all built-in deck and hull defects. This makes this reasonably priced product an even better investment.
The foam blocks that are set between the deck and the hull allow for extra security and paddler safety. I found the Sentinel 100X to be comfortable due to the molded footrests and an anti-slip surface. It also provides an ergonomic backrest that is just perfect for longer kayaking adventures.
While I didn’t encounter any issues performance-wise, I was annoyed by the fact that paddles aren’t included in this offer. Apart from that, both the Recreational and Angler Fishing kayaks are well-made and perform according to the manufacturer’s advertisement.
How To Use It
Unlike most of its competitors, this kayak isn’t inflatable. It is pre-installed, and the only thing that I needed to do is get aluminum paddles to go with it. Although it doesn’t come with a bag, I found the transportation and storage to be very simple considering its lightweight and sleek profile.
Pros
- Reasonably priced
- Rugged RAM-X structure
- Comfortable seating
- Stable and agile
- Storage compartment
Cons
- Doesn’t feature paddles

Alternatives
If the above model is not quite what you are looking for, take a look at this alternative model to see if it is more in line with what you want.
Intex Excursion Pro Series
If you don’t like the product discussed above, here is a fantastic substitute. Highlighted by a tough PVC core and with enhanced stability in mind, it is a suitable choice for kayak enthusiasts who are on a tight budget.
In my experience, it has everything that one would need, including enough leg room, elevated seating, and a few storage accessories.
Wrap Up
In the end, it all comes down to what you are looking for. If you want a recreational kayak to support your fishing hobby, then the Pelican Sit-on-Top Kayak – Sentinel 100X is a reliable option.
